Adobe showcased two Papervision3D demos at MacWorld FlashForward keynote yesterday.
Mike Downey presented our panorama when demostrating the new full-screen feature of Flash Player 9.
A few minutes later, Grant Skinner compared AS3 vs AS2 execution speed by showing an amazing Star Wars demo by our own John Grden.
Excellent stuff.

Excellent Demo John!
Sometimes faces seem to get invisible. I didn’t see those kinds of artefacts in the earlier demos of PV3D. Is this a known issue with Papervision or did John some kind of perfomance hacks that produce those artefacts?

mighty, the disappearing faces in John’s demo are due to the camera settings. Keep in mind that this Star Wars demo is just the beginning, can’t wait to see what John does with it.
mrsteel, you are right, rudebox is a very early version of Papervision3D.

ok, thanx
great stuff is meant for you star wars demo,
it’s gonna be pretty hard do real 3d in flash
have you seen bump map demo from bytearray.org
that can be maybe done faster but it is ok for AS3

We’ve got plans for mapping effects very soon, but we might benefit from the incredible work of the guys from bytearray.org. They’ve started the year producing seriously cool stuff.

I was very excited about Papervision (still am) and I needed a similar 3D engine for a Vodafone project. Sadly, Papervision wasnt available so I resorted to Sandy3D, which isn’t very bad. See http://sandy.media-box.net/blog/ (very nicely animated example implemented here: http://vds-communication.com/). The result for Vodafone can be found here; simple – but effective. Setting up an animation is really simple: http://www.vodafone.nl/prive/vodafone_live/
Thanks again for thinking with me b.t.w. Mikko!

Elvin,
I appreciate your interest in 3D, but this is not a fancy way of building another menu.
Our project goals are well beyond what has been done before inside a web browser.
We want to transform the way we use the web. We want to open your eyes and mind to something new and amazing.
This is just the beginning, but just by looking at the latest demos, you can’t deny a revolution has begun.
