Papervision3D training in Los Angeles – June 23/24

By neoriley

Well the folks at RMI are really embracing Papervision3D by having me teach 2 full days at their facilities in Los Angeles!

I could hardly believe my ears that I’d be able to spend 2 full days teaching Papervision3D! I’m seriously stoked to get the chance to hang with them again and do some live demo’s and hands on teaching.

Developers day: June 23rd

Designers day: June 24th

If you’re coming, then use these codes to get discounts on the pricing:

*$220 for each w/discount ‘john12
*$390 for both if purchased at the same time — purchase either course and enter code ‘JBOTH

The 2 days will be split up with topics covering Developers one day, and Designers the next and are meant to cater to those 2 groups very distinctly. Developers will learn about how to use PV3D in their work flow with 3D modelers as well as best use cases from code point of view. We’ll cover AS2/AS3/Flex2 and anything else we can think of. Designers will get a huge dose of work flow, using textures and getting a fresh copy of the new CS3 components for the Flash IDE. We’ll spend time going over how to use them and some best practices. Both classes will get copies of the components and training ;)

The Collada component is unbelievable! At the time of this entry, I’m able to load a collada file and texture it right there in the Flash IDE at DESIGN TIME. On top of that, I can load the textures at design time and rotate/scale the model. It also includes the ability to clip the scene (mask) and / or scale the scene with the resizing of the player at runtime.

And with having it in the Flash IDE at design time, we have MANY more possibilities with working with movieclips and textures:

Great stuff! Thinking of coming over from the UK. Now I just need a laptop! What do you think – Mac or PC for Papervision design and development?

  6. John Grden Says:

PC – just because I know the tools I can tell you to get will work :)

I have no idea about Mac’s at this point, but it should be just the same in most respects.

If you can get Flash9 (CS3) before the class, that’ll be good since I’ll be handing out the componets then and going over how to use them in the IDE

  7. Nick C Says:

Thanks John. CS3 is on preorder, so no problems there. Is 3DSMax a requirement too, or will anything that outputs to Collada (Maya, SoftImage, Blender etc) be ok?

  8. John Grden Says:

It’d be nice if you had 3D Studio there (that’s what I use), but not a requirement. You can get a 30day trial of 3DS from descreet’s website (www.discreet.com) – at least, that’s where I *think I got mine originally.

But anything that will output collada will be fine.

We’ll talk about ASE as well, but only briefly. Collada will definitely be the format we’ll cover in depth

So are you actually flying in from the UK??!?

  9. Nick C Says:

Hoping to! I’ve been really impressed with PV3D and think I could do with a head start for a couple of big projects I have lined up. I’m thinking of combining it with a short holiday, since I’ve never been the the US before.

Thanks for the extra info – hope to see you in June. Have you got many seats left at the moment? We get cheaper flights over here in the UK the later we book, so I’m wondering how late I can afford to leave it right now…

I just got an email from R Blank, who runs RMI and books the gigs, and he says we have sign ups already! The reason he was telling me was, it not normal ;) Most gigs don’t see sign ups until the month that it actually occurs in, but this one is still 2months out, and we already have sign ups!

Hello! great job!!! it’s the most thing i have seen lately, thank you for the opensource, i would like to know where to get started, or how do i know what it can do, i’m from Colombia, i have seen it has a lot of functionality but i think it’s difficult to go there and learn with you. is there some documentation?

very nice job dude, keep on working!
