Man, the last class we had in San Fran was a great class despite the fact that we had it on SUPERBOWL SUNDAY! It was the biggest class to date, and this one’s already filling up – I’m really excited about this one since it’s my first time back to Las Vegas in a while. I can’t wait to hit the strip with you guys on Saturday night! Get the details here (use “grden10″ for a 10% discount)!
The one thing I was really excited about was showing the code and optimization techniques for WinterWonderLand animation. It was the first time I’d done that demo and it was a little rough, but we got through it and we all went from 2fps to mid 20′s and had it working very well on most machines by the time we were done! We’ll be doing that demo, and going through the animation engine a bit more as it ties in with Material/DO3D/MovieClip communication a ton.

And as usual, I always try to cook up something new for the classes so it’s not boring for me and I feel like I can give each class something unique/new. This time around is no different and we have Jesse Ringrose ( of Nike Suite23 fame ) to thank for this next new project! I call it “Room Creator” and is based on the concepts Jesse so selflessly shared with me offlist and on list with the Papervision3D list.
The concept is to use the Flash IDE as a top view room editor. You create your walls, assign materials to the walls and place your camera in the room wherever you’d like it to start. Then publish the swf and bingo – it’s parsed into a 3D room complete with your layout and materials on the walls! I love stuff like that – easy to use, yet powerful in presentation
I’ve even mocked up a KeyManager class that mimics the Nike’ site controls and works very well for this demo.
The process is amazingly simple and with the controls, you’re up and running in very little amount of time in your own virtual room.
I’ll be covering this and all the other new stuff in Las Vegas March 29th and 30th – should be a full on blast as we’ll be just down the block from the Hard Rock Cafe, and DOOD – how appropriate is that!?!
Check out the short video demo of the Room Creator
Hope to see you there!
PS> As Usual, I’ll be giving away 2 free copies of Swift3D 5.0 as well as a discount code to save 15% when you purchase (if you don’t win the free copy of course

Excellent!!!! An excellent looking tool. I’m all new to this, I have dabbled a little in flash and now this is pretty exciting. DId you guys teach a class on this? This would have been a decent use of time. Looking forward for more
tools such as Room Creator.
