GE Smart Grid Augmented Reality makes great use of FLARToolKit and PV3D to create a digital hologram of Smart Grid technology in your hands.
A fantastic piece of work by our friends at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and North Kingdom.

It is very wow – but I just received a quote for licensing FLARToolkit for commercial use, and the prices are quite frankly extortionate!!
Papervision, on the other hand – which in my opinion is by far the greater of the two technologies – is completely free for commercial use.
It’s a shame as I was quite looking forward to getting stuck in with some Papervision/FLARToolkit augmented reality.

How very cool, this also works if you just draw the shape onto paper with a marker (I don’t have a printer)

Also noticed another Augmented reality on Earth Hour…not bad. Looks like they have added a slight reflection from what the camera records. I found an easter egg…If you click on the flash element type in “deathstar” and then hit enter…yes you get the death star…cool

Great post, I referenced it in a post I just completed HERE. One of the most interesting things is the relationship between the Internet of Things and Augmented Reality, they seem to be bound by the same fundamental requirements in both technology and adoption. Thanks for the post.
