Well I’d been able to fix a few outstanding bugs and make some long overdue enhancements to the component – that’s the very good news.
The bad news is that the component does not work at designtime in CS4 at ALL. The GUI, the rendering – nothing. You *can* see the properties in the inspector, but that’s about it. It *does* compile and work, but of course, what’s the point if you can’t work with it in Design mode?
I have spoken to someone at Adobe (just yesterday as a matter of fact) and they are aware of the issue – not that they know what the problem is, but at least we verified that this was, indeed, a potential bug. So, i’m kinda on the fence on this one.
I’m trying to decide if I should release the CS3 2.1 version now and just see what happens to the CS4 version later. I literally have no idea how many devs are still on CS3. I’d love to hear some feedback on who’s still using CS3 and if my releasing it now would help out.
Thanks all,
John

[...] Papervision3D Component update: CS4 March 19, 2009 — neoriley I’ve just posted an update on my progress on the Papervision3D blog [...]

I’m using CS4 and would like to use the Papervision3d Component in CS4. Thanks for your great work!
March 19, 2009 at 7:40 pm |
Funny how the words CS4 and bug tend to always show up in the same posts.
March 19, 2009 at 8:17 pm |
Ohh.. first I´ve heard of this component you´re building. Sounds interesting. Sorry to say that i work in CS4
What does the issue you´re having mean? Could it be useful if I mostly work in code? Good luck!

Usually I’m an upgrade addict, but with Flash I will stay at CS3 until CS4 stops using 50% of my cpu when running in the background with no document open…
March 20, 2009 at 9:39 am |
I work on CS4.. (and I love papervision
)
March 20, 2009 at 9:51 am |
Sorry, i’m still using cs3. I think most of the mac users will do, until cs5 and 64bit support.
March 20, 2009 at 11:51 am |
Don’t even think about rolling back to CS3.
Those devs who use CS3 aren’t usually the ones to implement bleeding-edge 3d technology, are they?
March 20, 2009 at 12:49 pm |
By all means release the 2.1 for CS3. There are a lot of us who would love to start using it! Good luck on resolving the CS4 issues. Thanks for your hard work!

I’m still working on CS3.. I think that big agencies are extremely slow to upgrade
March 20, 2009 at 5:39 pm |
Sorry, no CS4 yet, still CS3 up and running! :=)

Would love a CS3 2.1 version
March 23, 2009 at 8:25 am |
We still working on CS3. We are agree with Michael : “…big agencies are extremely slow to upgrade…”
March 23, 2009 at 10:50 pm |
Still in CS3 myself. And VERY interested in 3D technology.
March 24, 2009 at 12:20 pm |
still CS3 at the office and home. Maybe not “bleeding-edge 3D” but working to get there!
March 25, 2009 at 6:11 am |
Still using CS3 as the library is just too slow in CS4. Come on Adobe, pull your finger out!
March 25, 2009 at 1:12 pm |
I just starting using CS4 at home and I love, but at work we still use CS3. Personally I think a release for CS3 would be good for now, because I don’t think many have made that transition to CS4 yet.
March 25, 2009 at 11:15 pm |
Using CS3 here too.
March 30, 2009 at 9:29 am |
using 13 hours a day cs4 on the rocks
March 30, 2009 at 11:03 am |
cs3 for me too…
March 30, 2009 at 3:35 pm |
CS3 here too :/
Big agencies will take their time, as its an expensive move.
March 31, 2009 at 4:52 pm |
I’m on CS4…
April 1, 2009 at 3:19 pm |
The City of Calgary has recently switched over to CS4 and I would be very interested in the CS4 release.
April 2, 2009 at 5:30 pm |
Just another recent upgrader to CS4 still running CS3 at times. Both will remain installed for reasons too dull to elaborate on.
By all means, if 2.1 is shiny, release it for CS3. Might as well have us work out the bugs on our side before tackling CS4.
April 6, 2009 at 2:49 pm |
cs3.. cs4 is overpriced nonsense.
April 7, 2009 at 8:58 am |
CS4 on my side… And verrrry interested in papervision3d.
April 9, 2009 at 6:22 am |
Still using CS3, and I think I am going to leave CS3 on the machine until CS5 is released. I will just get a whole new Computer from saving all that money not getting CS4. I think a release for CS3 is the way to get the most potential profits.
April 15, 2009 at 7:50 pm |
=( cs4, and the y axis of the camera seems to be inverted for me
April 18, 2009 at 1:30 pm |
Was disapointed about CS4 and still i am. Using CS3 at least until CS5 is out. The combination of PV3D and CS3 is my choice. No need for Papervision X yet.
April 20, 2009 at 6:36 pm |
put another vote down for CS3

Eric, do you have any advice? I can’t get CS4 to work w/Papervision. (Je ne peux pas utiliser CS4 et Papervision, avez vous conseil?)
August 21, 2009 at 6:12 pm
I can’t get it to work on CS4, either…
but then again, I’m a n00b to all of this. HELP !!

Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http://eric.cipriano.free.fr/3d/univers/univers.dae
looks broken to me.
May 4, 2009 at 1:42 pm |
Still using CS3, I won’t switch to CS4 until they fix a lot of the bugs. I’m surprised it passed QA to tell you the truth.
May 4, 2009 at 4:21 pm |
Using both. Bring it on!
May 15, 2009 at 9:05 pm |
We still use cs3 here, big corporate is very slow to upgrade, talking about upgrade to cs4, but will not happen for 6 months to a year.
May 20, 2009 at 8:37 pm |
Using CS3, and will for 4 more months.
June 23, 2009 at 6:56 pm |
using CS4
July 4, 2009 at 3:08 pm |
im using both but i suppose you couldnt really count me because im still on as2 xD
August 13, 2009 at 1:26 pm |
i have both, but CS3 is still my IDE of choice, it’s faster, more stable, and if I want Flash 10 features I am compiling in the latest release Flex SDK anyway. CS4 is a waste of time.
August 22, 2009 at 6:51 am |
cs4 here !!
September 8, 2009 at 12:47 pm |
i’m currently on cs4 and have am disappointed with the non-compatibility with papervision 3d. papervision is great, native 3d in FP 10 is ok, not great, just ok. i’m hoping there is a fix or new version soon. if not, i’m going to have to reinstall cs3 just to play with papervision again.
thanks for all your effort developing this great plugin. i’ts a hit on a global scale!
September 17, 2009 at 3:12 pm |
Small company here, but 6 adobe cs4 web bundle licenses.
We are waiting for your CS4 version:)
Thanks for everything!
September 27, 2009 at 4:53 pm |
Using CS4 here, thanks for developing this.
November 26, 2009 at 5:11 am |

I’m having this exact problem but on CS3 with the pv collada component not showing the model on the stage at designtime. When I publish it works and I see it, but it doesn’t show up in the component window at all….anyone else having this problem with CS3…fix? I’m using the latest pv release and OpenCollada ver 1.2.2 plug in on Maya 2009
