Flash on the Beach 09

June 18, 2009

Flash on the Beach is coming soon this year, 20th-23rd Sept -even the weather should be awesome down in Brighton.

Organizer John Davey is working hard to make this event even better than previous editions, and looking at the speaker line-up it won’t be easy to decide who to see next.

Our project will be represented by Ralph Hauwert,  Seb Lee-Delisle and myself, Carlos Ulloa. We’ll be discussing our latest work and explaining the different techniques used in the process. It’s also always a great opportunity to meet the members of our community and relax at the evening parties.

Please note that with attendees coming from all over Europe, tickets will sold out as usual.

US Open at New York Times

June 18, 2009

Excellent interactive infographics from The New York Times that allows you to examine the 15th hole of the US Open Golf Tournament in glorious 3D.

Impressive high detail was achieved with a high-mesh laser scan of the 15th green that was used to build a detailed texture map and a simplified model for import into Papervision.

Created by Shan Carter, Mika Grondahl and Joe Ward at The New York Times.

Ribbit Contest, Forum Contest, and Craftsman

June 13, 2009

Here’s a few “in case you missed it” news bites:

Ribbit recently held a killer app contest to see who could put together the best app using Ribbit’s integrated web communication technology. It just so happens that the winner of the contest also used a little 3d library known as Papervision3D ;) Congratulations Lucid Viewer:

We also just held a Papervision3D Augmented Reality Contest on the Forums for a copy of FDT (thanks FDT!). The winning entry by James Alliban is quite amazing. Check it out (and don’t forget to stop by the forums for all your Papervision3D questions):

Lastly, I recently received an e-mail from Javier Otero telling me he took what he learned from one of our Papervision3D trainings and used it to build out craftsman.com.

Amazing work Javier! Just imagine what YOU could do if you came to a Papervision3D training ;)

Big and Small

It’s taken a while but I am very pleased to present the Big and Small website for the BBC! Myself and the team at Plug-in Media have been working really hard on this for a few months. There’s a full write up about it on my blog along, you can see the walkthrough on vimeo, or visit the site here.

I really would like to publicly thank everyone at Plug-in, it’s a real honour to work with such talented people!

More information about the Big and Small website.
