EnergyLab

August 5, 2009

energylab

So much energy has never before been contained in a bottle. You had better not touch it, one can never know what consequences it might have.

EnergyLab is a 3D puzzle created by Grupo W in Mexico and my studio HelloEnjoy here in London. You have five minutes to assemble the bottle and win a trip to Russia to fly a combat jet.

The Economist Thinking Space

August 5, 2009

economist

Our friends at Hi-ReS!, in collaboration with AMV BBDO, have crafted this classy PV3D website for the Economist.

In the words of Nicola Davies, from AMV BBDO:

The Economist Thinking Space asks people…where do you get your ideas? We invite you into the lives of some of our European Economist readers – it opens the door to their ‘thinking space’. Our diverse range of influential personalities share their thoughts, ideas, parts of their lives and the role The Economist plays in it. Users are also able to upload and tag images of their own spaces, to allow the site to become more inclusive and to grow, breaking away from the brand’s historical exclusivity.

An excellent piece of work that makes great use of 3D, another fine example of the creative talent and sensibility of the Hi-ReS! team.

July 27, 2009

Last week, on behalf of the PV3D team, I had the pleasure to present Papervision3D at TEDGlobal 2009 conference in Oxford.

I see this as a great recognition to the work of everybody in the project, from developers to our amazing community, certainly an idea worth spreading.

Keep you posted when the video goes live.

Nobuaki Arikata, from Japanese studio EJE sent this super sweet site made for a dentist, full of animated 3D characters.

They imported the 3D models from LightWave and animated them on Flash. It takes a little while to load, but the result is beautiful.

Jerry Filipiak sent us this nice Papervision3D site they´ve done as introduction for their  web agency, So Interactive, in beautiful Krakow, Poland.

If you click on play, the paper figurines that form the menu become targets in game where you have to hit them with a paper ball. Very nicely done and a fun game too!

The Baileys Lounge

July 27, 2009

Andre Assalino developed this beautiful pop-up book Baileys site for Chemistry, London. Designed by Ryohei Hase, Rob Trono and Jose Valente, The Baileys Lounge is a Papervision3D based magazine, updated every month.

It’s 3 sections (Features, Food & Drink and Offers) contain dynamic highlights and respective articles, fed via XML.

The 3D animations were done in 3D Max at the time, so they could position the assets properly, and in turn, the animations are controled via code, as is the dynamic highlights’ positioning.

Very well done and a beautiful use of light.

CASA

casa400x400

Moscow based  STAIN have developed a crazy 3D first person PacMan game for CASA creative force.

Alexandra Gavrilova and Sergey Titov used Papervision 2.0, Tweener, FlashDevelop as code editor, Flash CS3 to make swc files and Blender for 3d modelling and COLLADA export.

They found particles very useful because of their low performance needs and pure vector look, and Alexandra added star and diamond shapes to particle material class. Vectorvision is used for CASA logotype in the end.

Flash on the Beach 09

June 18, 2009

Flash on the Beach is coming soon this year, 20th-23rd Sept -even the weather should be awesome down in Brighton.

Organizer John Davey is working hard to make this event even better than previous editions, and looking at the speaker line-up it won’t be easy to decide who to see next.

Our project will be represented by Ralph Hauwert,  Seb Lee-Delisle and myself, Carlos Ulloa. We’ll be discussing our latest work and explaining the different techniques used in the process. It’s also always a great opportunity to meet the members of our community and relax at the evening parties.

Please note that with attendees coming from all over Europe, tickets will sold out as usual.

US Open at New York Times

Excellent interactive infographics from The New York Times that allows you to examine the 15th hole of the US Open Golf Tournament in glorious 3D.

Impressive high detail was achieved with a high-mesh laser scan of the 15th green that was used to build a detailed texture map and a simplified model for import into Papervision.

Created by Shan Carter, Mika Grondahl and Joe Ward at The New York Times.
