A new dawn

February 16, 2007

I am very proud to present Ralph Hauwert as the new contributor to our project.

I have been following his amazing work since I heard him speak at the Spark conference in Amsterdam, back in 2005. When he volunteered his energy, enthusiasm and talent, I knew we were in for something special. But to be honest, I was not prepared for this.

He has undertaken the extremely challenging task of rewriting our render engine and take it to a level never seen before in Flash.

He is currently developing a dazzling array of state-of-the-art special effects that will take Papervision3D to a whole new dimension of graphics realism. And as if that wasn’t enough, his work will also boost the performance of the engine in many ways.

It is too early to understand the full implications of this development. But one thing is for sure, the web has taken a quantum leap into the future.

Please join me to thank Ralph for taking the time and effort to place his magic at our very fingertips.

Thank you

Awesome full-screen action

January 18, 2007

Ricardo Cabello aka Mr.doob has posted two jaw-dropping Papervision3D AS3 demos that clearly raise the bar on full-screen Flash performance.

The work that’s being produced by our betatester team is simply amazing, and there’s much more coming your way.

Macworld Flashforward keynote

January 10, 2007

Adobe showcased two Papervision3D demos at MacWorld FlashForward keynote yesterday.

Mike Downey presented our panorama when demostrating the new full-screen feature of Flash Player 9.

A few minutes later, Grant Skinner compared AS3 vs AS2 execution speed by showing an amazing Star Wars demo by our own John Grden.

Excellent stuff.

Happy 2007!

January 1, 2007

Last year was amazing, but 2007 looks even better.

It will certainly see the release of the much anticipated public beta of Papervision3D, hopefully sooner than later. In any case, I believe the wait will be worth it.

A group of very talented people has worked on the alpha during the past month, taken this project to a new level. Let me openly express my acknowledgement and respect. A lot of new features have been added in the process. And on top of that, an AS3 version is now being developed in parallel.

Just compare 2007 to last year’s 2006, which was the premiere of Papervision. I think you would understand why we are so excited.

Papervision3D AS3 Panorama

December 18, 2006

I’ve just put together this cubic panorama, so I could benchmark Papervision3D AS3 full-screen performance.

It’s just a standard cube made out of six planes, for a total of 588 triangles. Click anywhere to see the wireframe and the fps counter.
