colour like.no.other

October 8, 2007

The new website for the third Sony BRAVIA campaign has just launched, making heavy use of Papervision3D.

Like colours this site will change over time with regular contributions by editors with different views and experiments on colour.

As my first major job as carlosulloa.com, I’m very happy to see it’s finally live.

Floorplanner goes 3D

September 10, 2007

Floorplanner is a very powerful and easy to use online application, that allows you to create and share interactive floor plans for your room, house or office space.

Created and developed by Suite75 from Rotterdam (The Netherlands) -a talented team with Architecture and Engineering backgrounds and our very own Tim Knip- have just announced their plans to go 3D.

The beta demo of Floorplanner 3D not only demonstrates the potential of realtime architectural visualization on the web, but also makes it accessible for anyone.

More info on their blog.

Papervision3D training in Europe, Amsterdam, October 8 & 9!

September 4, 2007

It’s my pleasure to announce to you that Papervision3D trainings are finally coming to Europe! After John Grden’s sessions in the US, the Rich Media Institute and FITC will now host a session in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The 2 day workshop will be hosted by me, Ralph Hauwert, and throughout these sessions we will go in depth with Papervision3D for developers, but we’ll also leave plenty of space for designers to enjoy the workshop and get up to speed with the latest and greatest with 3D in Flash. You’ll leave this workshop with a total grasp of Papervision3D, enabling you to do exiting 3D work for your sites! Read more details at the RMI site.

”This will be 2 days of 3D heaven focusing on primarily Developer driven topics and issues. Designers who have some coding skills will get a lot out of this as well as we’re not writing 3D math code, but taking an in-depth look at the PV3D engine and how to use the API in any given situation for Flash work. We’ll cover scenes, cameras, camera types, materials, material types, loading, COLLADA, Flex2 development, the CS3 Component (latest and future versions), 3D workflow in an agency type setting, animation, texturing (UVW, 3D apps, and how they apply to PV3D work). “

Pricing for the 2 days is set at 450 Euro’s, but with discount code ‘rhauwert’ you get another 10% off!

Register at the RMI site, be quick before it’s full!

Mr.doob’s DOF experiments

September 4, 2007

Amazing Depth Of Field experiments by Ricardo Cabello aka Mr.doob, using Papervision3D and Tweener, a very powerful and easy to use tween engine.

Twitter Blocks

September 1, 2007

The Twitter team has just opened a new area of the site called Explore, a set of visualization tools people can use to interact with Twitter off the site itself.

Their first release is Twitter Blocks, an abstract way to discover new people on your Twitter block by navigating through an animated three dimensional visualization of who follows whom.

Developed by Ryan Alexander and Tom Carden from Stamen Design in San Francisco, using the new interactive features of Papervision3D.

Magic Carpet

August 21, 2007

Here is a great example of mixing physics with Papervision3D.

Manuel Bua, a very talented software developer based in Trento (Italy), has created Magic Carpet, a carpet simulation demo powered by Alec Cove‘s excellent APE physics engine.

The interactive mesh deformation is very realistic, quite fun to play with. But his attention to detail goes further, with realtime image compositing and post-processing.

Best of all, the source code is here.

So, you wanna click that button on the 3D object. Fine.

August 17, 2007

I just posted the new ISM demos and docs to the FaceLevelInteractivity branch and posted a detailed entry and demo using the new face level support on Papervision3D

BoxDemoScreenShot

Check it out!

It doesn’t get any easier than this:

  • create MovieClip
  • add objects that you want to be clickable (IE: UI components, or other movieclips/sprite objects)
  • use this MovieClip with an InteractiveMovieMaterial
  • apply InteractiveMovieMaterial to 3D object
  • done.

All MouseEvents will be dispatched on your objects and away you go!

Enjoy.

3D Sine Wave Study

August 15, 2007

Here’s another excellent example of what can be done with Papervision3D. Described by author Lee Felarca as a wavey liquid surface being hit by rocks.

Make sure you try the different options because it’s quite fun to play with it. You can zoom in and out, pause and look around and even underneath, and there’s a lot of texture options. The lava is simply amazing.

Paper Critters

August 12, 2007

Paper Critters is a great online application for creating and sharing 3D paper toys.

It’s a very polished piece of work, from the 3D views using Papervision3D to display content created in 3DS Max, to the interface design, including little details like the sound and ambient music.

Designed and developed in San Francisco by JR Fabito, as his final project at the Academy of Art University, MFA Computer Arts New Media program.

[Update] The site might be experiencing bandwidth/hosting problems, particularly after achieving FWA‘s Site Of The Month. Congratulations!

Domenico Tedone Design

August 4, 2007

Here’s another cool website filmed in Papervision3D.

Developed by Pedro Moraes, from Brazil, the portfolio of Italian designer Domenico Tedone is displayed in a 3D wheel that implements a very nice mouse wheel navigation.

The extra dimension opens a lot of potential for innovative work in information display and navigation, requiring creative use of the mouse and other input devices.

Another good example of this type of navigation, but using the keyboard is Antti Kupila’s Flame.
