Nine worlds in Papervision3D
April 19, 2008Audi RS 6
April 17, 2008Here’s another finely crafted PV3D site from GT London.
Ben Lunt, art director of Webby Awards nominee Rhythm of Lines, tells us how they did the elegant particle animations used in the transitions:
Interesting fact (ahem):
All the particle animations were completed in 3DS Max, utilizing the P-Flow plug-in from Orbaz Technologies. The resulting vertex data was then exported (using a custom MaxScript written by Dave Stewart) into a multi-dimensional array to choreograph the tile movement within Flash.
We’d done something similar with Rhythm of Lines, but from Maya to Flash, which was pretty straight-forward. Getting the data into a usable format from 3DS Max to Flash was, comparatively, a massive ball ache.

Great work, and good luck with the awards!
FINALLY! 50% Student discounts on John’s last 2 PV3D courses
April 17, 2008
Well, this is something that I’d wanted to do because I get asked about it quite a bit, but I don’t actually control the pricing of the courses. But the folks over at RMI got enough requests for it, and so they’ve issued a student discount code that’s worth 50% off the general admission price!
THAT ROCKS!

If you’re a student, and you’d like to attend one of the last 2 Papervision3D courses I’m doing (there are still other classes by other PV3D people going on after that of course), or you know a student, head on over to the links below and use this code:
Vancouver code: PVStudent
Toronto code: PVStudentTO
They only require that you show a valid student ID on the day of the classes of course.
You can also use ‘grdenvan‘ for 10% off discount on regular ticket prices.
Courses left:
After that, I’m done for a while. Check out this post to see what’s being covered, and here’s on post of a happy student from the Las Vegas class (which rocked beyond belief, that one was alot of fun!). Please let me know if you have any questions!
ERain’s Swift3D to support Papervision3D Export
November 15, 2007Electric Rain has announced today that their product, Swift3D will support export for Papervision3D in the upcoming release. Quote :
“Swift 3D will also be capable of converting existing models in the .3DS and .DXF file format into Papervision3D projects, creating all the necessary ActionScript 3.0, FLA, and 3D files needed to run the project without doing any hand coding.”
Earthmine, indexing reality.
September 28, 2007Berkeley-based Earthmine, has first unveiled their 3D mapping system to the world at the DEMOfall 2007 conference. Their vehicles take high resolution imagery whilst surveying the entire surroundings in 3D. This awesome dataset opens up a whole world of possibilities in the world of geo spatial indexing.
To unlock this data to the public, for front-end technology they chose the Flash Platform, in combination with Papervision3D. This allows them to enable anyone to access high resolution 3D datasets, and tag, navigate, measure, take pictures, and lots more.
