Well, this is something that I’d wanted to do because I get asked about it quite a bit, but I don’t actually control the pricing of the courses. But the folks over at RMI got enough requests for it, and so they’ve issued a student discount code that’s worth 50% off the general admission price!
THAT ROCKS!
If you’re a student, and you’d like to attend one of the last 2 Papervision3D courses I’m doing (there are still other classes by other PV3D people going on after that of course), or you know a student, head on over to the links below and use this code:
Vancouver code: PVStudent
Toronto code: PVStudentTO
They only require that you show a valid student ID on the day of the classes of course.
You can also use ‘grdenvan‘ for 10% off discount on regular ticket prices.
After that, I’m done for a while. Check out this post to see what’s being covered, and here’s on post of a happy student from the Las Vegas class (which rocked beyond belief, that one was alot of fun!). Please let me know if you have any questions!
Hellohikimori (HKI) have launched another great navigation experience with PV3D.
Black XS - the Game is a new website based on Prison Break for the Paco Rabanne perfume. You can explore a prison of sorts where you´ll find an episode guide of the TV series and a minigame.
Move around with the arrow keys, press space to open the doors. Nice work!
arTYPEcture is a project exploring points of contact between typography and architecture, and its objective is to create a typography formed by architectonic modules, and a building whose plan is made by parts of letters.
Conceived by Nacho García Martín as the final project for his Design degree, he chose PV3D to present it. In order to make easier for people to interact with the project, he built the impressive interface you can see in the video.
The user can control the camera by positioning a counter in the plan of the building. A webcam placed under the plan sends the position variables of the counter to the swf with the 3D house.
Nacho has sent this pdf explaining how the interface works (in Spanish, but pretty self-explanatory).
Well, just for John (me) that is I made a promise that I’d only do 2 more and then stay at home (except for Brighton of course), so Vancouver and Toronto will be it for me for a while.
The Las Vegas class was one for the books to be sure. The classes were great, the students rocked and the demo’s worked as they should (not to mention the night life - sunday morning was started with people straggling in every 10 minutes I can’t wait to go back there for another gig!
Last year we had a great time at this awesome event and we are hoping it will be even better this year!
This year’s event will include a pre-conference 1-day official workshop on Papervision3D hosted by one of the core development team, yours truly, Ralph Hauwert.
With the FITC Amsterdam workshop completely selling out, make sure you are in time ordering your tickets for FITC Toronto fast…real fast. To attend you need either a pre-festival workshop ticket or a full conference ticket, which will give you access to the entire event.
The code unitzeroone will give you a 10% discount on the full conference ticket!
If you decide to go to the conference make sure you also attend the “3D in Flash: Now and in the future” session, which promises to become an interesting discussion between developers and Adobe!
Also, some love at Flash 2D and 3D effects would be highly appreciated (as well as giving you a sneak at some previously unseen material )!
Someone had asked about what settings to use in Maya for export Collada, so I took a screenshot of my settings :) I’m not a master at Maya by any means, but these options seem to work just fine for me:
The last option you don’t see in the screen shot is that Xfov is unchecked, and Yfov is checked
Lately I’ve been getting alot of emails about the Las Vegas class (which is filling up fast) asking if their 3D developer or designer would get much out of the class and I thought I should say something about that
The answer is YES! I have several people attend classes who had just gotten into flash recently or were primarily going to be doing 3D but for Papervision flash sites and applications. The ones that I’ve talked to have said they gained alot from the class time and had alot of fun at it, so I think it’s a good thing for those folks.
Man, the last class we had in San Fran was a great class despite the fact that we had it on SUPERBOWL SUNDAY! It was the biggest class to date, and this one’s already filling up - I’m really excited about this one since it’s my first time back to Las Vegas in a while. I can’t wait to hit the strip with you guys on Saturday night! Get the details here (use “grden10″ for a 10% discount)!
